Walter, a Jewish attorney from Germany during the Holocaust, and his family leave their home for Africa, expecting to stay temporarily in Kenya.
However, their stay extends nearly a decade, in which they must
grapple with pioneer life and an unfamiliar culture. Husband and wife clash
repeatedly, and the interplay between them is a microcosm of their fight to
survive in a foreign and inhospitable climate. The story is told from the
point of view of their daughter, as she grows from a child into a young woman.
In German and Swahili with English subtitles.
