Even someone who doesn't know a thing about horse racing can enjoy this extraordinary feel-good film. It may even make laymen into fans.

Based on a true story, and adapted from the book of the same name, 'Seabiscuit' is engrossing, exciting, and uplifting, a welcome change from the usual Great Depression fare. It tells the story of a horse named Seabiscuit who was considered too small to race until he was paired with a young man named Red (Tobey Maguire). Although Red was a bit too big to be taken seriously as a jockey, he turned out to be the only one with the talent and personality to bond with this animal. Aided by an ex-millionaire who had lost everything (Jeff Bridges) and a quirky trainer (Chris Cooper), this horse and man team overcame poverty, political disfavor, and even life-threatening injury to become one of the greatest legends in sporting history. Stealing the show with comedic commentary on the whole affair was the famous radio personality Tick Tock McGlaughlin (William H. Macy).
