American Splendor (2003)

Harvey Pekar, a VA hospital file clerk by day and a collector and aspiring comic book author by night, enjoys jazz music, literature, and candy. He's also about to make a very interesting discovery - his life, and the quirky characters which inhabit it, make a fertile breeding ground for comic-book-worthy ideas. The unlikely source of encouragement for his newfound artistic inspiration is fellow pack-rat Robert Crumb, who has already found international success as an underground graphic novelist. Soon, Harvey's groundbreaking warts-and-all portrayal of his ordinary life becomes a cult phenomenon. Meanwhile, he finds himself falling in love with Joyce Barber, a sardonic partner in a Delaware comic book store. Based on a true story, this hilarious and perceptive film is as ingenious as it is original.

Bernice Chin (Wai Ching Ho) has never really known her estranged son Wilson. Now a car accident has put Wilson into a coma. And the only clue he's left behind is a box of twenty-year-old toy robots. As her daughter Grace (Cindy Cheung) presses her to deal with Wilson's deteriorating condition, Bernice becomes obsessed with Wilson's toys, as if repairing the robots will help her connect with her unreachable son.

The Robot Fixer will begin promptly at the scheduled starting time for American Splendor, so arrive early!
