This epic, set in Japan in the late nineteenth century, is the story of an
American soldier (Tom Cruise) who is sent to Japan to destroy the last of the
threatening samurai warriors. However, when he is captured, he begins to learn a
side of the samurai he never knew. These honorable Japanese warriors train him
in the art of swordsmanship and the code of honor, and in turn he becomes their
most valued ally and advocate.
"Beautifully designed, intelligently written, acted with conviction, it's an
uncommonly thoughtful epic."
