Touch of Evil (1958)
April 9, 2004 at 7:30 and 10:30pm in 10-250.

Named to the National Film Registry in 1993 by the National Film Preservation Board of the Library of Congress. Originally cut upon release to a scant 95 minutes. LSC will be showing the 1998 restoration, which at 111 minutes is the most complete version available.

In this film, director Orson Welles (Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons) has crafted a crime film to rival all others. From the legendary opening shot, an uninterrupted 3 minute and twenty second scene with no cuts, to the famous last line of dialogue, Touch of Evil has entered the canon of American cinema.

Set near the Mexican border, the film stars Charlton Heston (Ben-Hur) as the Mexican narcotics officer trying to unravel a murder, Janet Leigh (Psycho) as his wife. Orson Welles puts in a delicious appearance as the corrupt policeman at the heart of the twisted plot.
