MIT alum Andrew Silver will show his latest film, Second Wind, in a double-feature presentation. The screening will start with the prequel Radio Cape Cod, followed by a brief discussion. The event will then continue with Second Wind, after which Andrew will discuss hybrid media and nurturing creativity in film-making. For the discussions, Andrew will be joined by Marisa Smith, the writer of Second Wind, and David Thorburn, MIT Professor of Literature; the audience is encouraged to participate and ask questions. Each of the two segments is expected to last approximately an hour.

About the films:

Second Wind is a heart-warming story about family, friendship, independence, and dealing with change. Starring the 86-year-old iconic UK actress June Brown, the film will lift your spirits and fill your sails with its stories of four generations of spirited women. The sister films in the trilogy are the prequel Radio Cape Cod, which features the same cast, and Profiles in Aspiration.

About the participants:

Andrew Silver is a graduate of MIT and the Sloan School of Management, and has a doctorate from the Harvard Business School. He is the co-author of a chapter in the HBS anthology "Breakthrough Thinking," and a long-time member of the Council for the Arts at MIT and of the Board of Directors of the Coolidge Corner Theater.

Marisa Smith is a playwright--works include Saving Kitty (W.H.A.T Theater, New Jersey Repertory Company) and Mad Love (Northern Stage)--and a publisher at Smith & Kraus Publishers. Second Wind is her first film.

David Thorburn joined the MIT Literature faculty in 1976. He was the founder and for twelve years the director of the Film and Media Studies Program and is a former director of the Cultural Studies Project. He is currently the director of the MIT Communications Forum. [boston.alumclub.mit.edu]
