Frantisek Louka (Zdenek Svera'k) is a concert cellist in
Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia, a confirmed bachelor and a lady's man.
Desparate for money, he agrees to marry a Russian woman so she can
leave her homeland. Soon, however, she disappears, leaving behind her
five-year-old son, Kolya (Andrej Chalimon). Winner of the 1996
Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Picture.
