You might consider a big-screen adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's
biting satire of the American Dream to be an insurmountable task, but
it's difficult to imagine a director more suited for the job than
Terry Gilliam (Brazil, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Monty Python).
His unique mastery of the absurd is indispensable in following the
journey of Thompson, a self-styled 'gonzo journalist', and his failed
search for the American Dream. With a Samoan attorney and a stolen
car, Thompson (played by Johnny Depp) heads to Vegas to cover a
motorcycle convention, after using their entire advance to stock up on
drugs and weapons.

Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Francis Fisher, and Bill Paxton. Winner of 11
