Easygoing Clay Birdwell (Joaquin Phoenix) is about to face a darkly
comedic odyssey. It all starts when Clay's best friend Earl doesn't
take too kindly to the news that Clay has been sleeping with Earl's
"hot-to-trot" wife (Georgiana Cates). Things go from bad to worse, and
Clay soon has the unwanted attentions of both an FBI agent (Janeane
Garofalo) and an elusive serial killer.

In this film based on the thinly-veiled allegorical bestseller by Joe
Klein (writing as 'Anonymous'), John Travolta plays Jack Stanton, a
Southern state governor running for President who also happens to be a
deviously talented manipulator. Seen through the eyes of his
political strategist, the film takes a tongue-in-cheek look at his
campaign, which is rocked along the way by a sex scandal as mud and
cover-ups fly. Also stars Emma Thompson.
